After seeing all those beautiful Totoro bentos on Annathered’s blog, and being a huge Totoro fan myself I decided to try my hand. Totoro was my most favourite movie when I was little…even though I didn’t really know what was going on, I *really* wanted to ride in the neko-bus. Actually, I still do.
I’m pretty happy with the way it turned out :) Though, the sunflowers are bit…wonky…I just need practice. Also, the hot dogs aren’t so “poofy” anymore because I boiled them last night. I guess I can’t do that beforehand. And I really think fishcake is better for eyes…even though it’s “squooshy”, it’s whiter than white cheese.
This was G’s lunch today…and there’s lotus root in the bottom (apparently it’s good as filler and to keep a little airflow for the rice because of the holes), big Totoro is made from plain rice and rice mixed with ground sesame seed/walnut cereal, little Totoros are quail eggs, hot dog flowers, egg sheets for the sunflowers, carrots, edamame, corn, broccoli, cheese for the eyes.
If you want to try to make a rice Totoro, I used Annathered’s “how to.” Good luck! Happy Friday everyone!
